are currently eight working distilleries on Islay. For
many of us Islay is equal to very peaty whisky, and its
true to most of the whiskies, but some are very gentle
on the palate.

On the Isle of Jura, right next to Islay
there is also a distillery, Jura
Distillery.
There has
been a lot more distilleries on Islay.
Achenvoir 1816 - 1818
Ardenistel, 1836 - 1852, also known as Kildalton
(49-52) and Islay (52. Merged with Laphroaig in
1853.
Ardmore (Lagavulin 2) 1817 - 1835, Mereged with
Lagavulin 1837
Bridgend and Killarow, unknown, early 19th
century
Daill 1814 - 1830
Lagavulin 1816 - 1837. Was located at the same place as
the current Lagavulin Distillery.
Freeport Mid 19th century.
Lochindaal Distillery 1829 - 1929 also known as Port
Charlotte and Rhins.
Lossit 1826 - 1860
Malt Mill 1908 - 1960
